miss-mary-quite-contrary:

This feather was painted by a ‘Cape Horner’ called Captain ‘Will’ Nelson, who lived at Malvern Terrace in Swansea. It was painted in 1898, and was donated to the Museum in 1996 by Mr. George Owen. This feather follows a 19th century tradition amongst mariners who painted them as mementos for their families and loved-ones during long sea voyages.
